Job Description

Business Development Representative (BDR)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Development Representative (BDR) based in Canada. This role is a key first point of contact for prospective customers, engaging with local government agencies across North America. You'll combine inbound lead engagement with high-volume, multi-channel outbound prospecting to create qualified opportunities for the sales team. The position blends research, relationship building, consultative communication, and data-driven experimentation to improve outreach performance. You'll use AI-powered sales tools to identify buying signals, personalize messaging, and research prospects at scale. Working closely with Marketing and Sales, you'll help refine target accounts, qualification processes, and go-to-market messaging. The role offers strong visibility and structured development opportunities toward full-cycle sales, customer success, and other go-to-market career paths.

Accountabilities:

  • Build and execute high-volume, multi-channel outbound sequences using cold calls, personalized emails, LinkedIn outreach, and other prospecting channels.
  • Respond to inbound leads promptly and provide prospective customers with a smooth, informative experience.
  • Research potential accounts using Ideal Customer Profile criteria, sales tools, networks, and targeted lists to identify qualified opportunities.
  • Use AI-powered tools to research prospects, identify buying signals, and personalize outreach around each agency's specific challenges and needs.
  • Identify decision-makers, influencers, and potential champions within target organizations and develop multi-threaded engagement strategies.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sales to develop target account lists, call strategies, messaging, and initiatives that increase market awareness.
  • Partner with Sales Executives to ensure qualified leads are handed over smoothly and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an active prospect pipeline while gathering information, qualifying interest, and progressing opportunities.
  • Keep Salesforce up to date by recording activities, maintaining accurate contact information, and identifying ideal accounts within the assigned territory.
  • Continuously improve lead qualification processes and outreach strategies based on performance data.
  • Track personal prospecting metrics, analyze results, and adjust activities to improve conversion and meeting-booking performance.
  • Share prospect feedback, objections, market intelligence, and competitive insights with the broader team to strengthen messaging and go-to-market strategies.

Requirements:

  • 1–3+ years of relevant B2B sales and/or GovTech experience.
  • Strong confidence and comfort with cold calling prospective customers by phone.
  • Experience explaining technical or complex solutions to key stakeholders.
  • Experience using Salesforce and Dialpad.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to create clear, compelling outreach.
  • Experience using AI sales tools for prospect research and outreach personalization.
  • Data-driven approach to outbound sales, with the ability to track personal metrics, interpret results, and proactively adjust performance.
  • Coachable, self-aware, and receptive to feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Curious mindset with a willingness to ask thoughtful questions and understand prospect challenges in depth.
  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly and retain substantial amounts of product and market information.
  • Strong ownership, accountability, communication, and customer-focused mindset.
  • Experience in community development, including permitting, planning, licensing, or code enforcement, is an asset.
  • Demonstrated quota attainment is an asset.
  • Consultative selling experience is an asset.
  • Interest in government technology, local governments, public policy, community development, or land development is an asset.

Benefits:

  • Remote position in Canada.
  • Base salary of $60,000–$70,000, depending on skills, experience, qualifications, internal pay equity, and broader compensation philosophy.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • Paid time off and other time-away benefits.
  • Health-focused benefits for employees and their families, depending on employment type.
  • Structured onboarding, including a two-week BDR onboarding bootcamp covering the Ideal Customer Profile, sales tools, cold calling, qualification, and product knowledge.
  • Territory assignment and partnership with a Sales Executive following successful onboarding.
  • Structured 90-day plans with onboarding quotas and quarterly targets.
  • Regular one-to-one meetings and coaching sessions.
  • Performance and compensation reviews, with promotion pathway discussions during the first year.
  • Opportunities for career progression into full-cycle sales, customer success, and other go-to-market roles.
  • Occasional travel for company-wide or departmental in-person meetings, typically 1–2 times per year.
  • Inclusive environment focused on ownership, continuous learning, courageous communication, customer focus, and diversity.
  • Accommodations available throughout the application, interview, testing, and hiring process.
